Frequently Asked Questions

Is ToolPiper really free?

Yes. The download is free and the core engine, MCP server, browser automation, and chat are all unrestricted. A ModelPiper subscription adds more, one rung at a time:

  • Pro $10/mo — Local RAG over your files, Web scraping and YouTube transcripts, Cloud API proxy (bring your own keys)
  • Studio $29/mo — Image upscaling (ANE-native), Video upscaling (60fps real-time), Video editing pipeline, Pose detection (60fps streaming), Outreach toolkit (queue, posting, Firehose)
  • Max $49/mo — Code (agentic AI code editor), PiperTest (self-healing browser tests), API discovery toolkit, Priority support
Does it work offline?

Yes. Once a model is downloaded, ToolPiper runs entirely offline. Inference, transcription, TTS, OCR, and embeddings all happen on-device. You can also wire up cloud providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq) if you want them, but nothing is forced.

Do I need an account?

No. ToolPiper opens straight into the app. An account is only required if you want to subscribe to a paid plan or sync settings across machines.

Where are models stored?

~/Library/Application Support/ToolPiper/models/. You can move them, symlink them to an external SSD, or point ToolPiper at an existing Ollama model directory.

How are updates delivered?

ToolPiper checks for updates daily and on launch using Sparkle with EdDSA signature verification (the same scheme Bear, Tot, and Acorn use). You can disable auto-updates in Settings and update manually instead.

How do I uninstall?

Drag ToolPiper.app to the Trash. To remove downloaded models, delete ~/Library/Application Support/ToolPiper/. That's it — no kernel extensions, no background daemons, no hidden state.
