# Keyword Discovery on Mac: One Seed, Many Queries

## TL;DR

serp_autocomplete reads Google Suggest and returns the completions Google offers for a seed. That is presence, not volume: it proves people type a phrase and says nothing about how many. Expanding one seed surfaces the phrasings a keyword tool would charge you to see.

The useful half of keyword research is not the number beside the phrase. It is the phrase. Most pages miss their audience because they name the thing the way the company names it, not the way a reader types it.

Autocomplete answers that directly. Google shows completions because people type them, so a seed expansion is a list of real phrasings, ranked by nothing you can see but real all the same.

## Presence is not volume, and the difference is the whole rule

A completion proves the phrase gets typed. It does not tell you how often, how competitive the phrase is, or what a click on it would cost. Treating a count of suggestions as a demand figure is the most common way this data gets misused, and it is worth stating plainly because the mistake looks like analysis.

Use autocomplete to find the phrasings. Use Search Console to find out which of them you already appear for, and how often. Those are two different instruments and only the second one measures anything.

Start with what this does not do. There is no search volume here, no keyword difficulty, no cost per click, no backlink index, no domain overview, no stored rank history and no site crawler. If you need any of those, a vendor backed suite such as OpenSEO has them and ToolPiper does not. ## How ToolPiper does it

### 1. Install ToolPiper

### 2. Expand one seed, not twenty

Ask for the expansion of a single seed close to the page you plan to write. A narrow seed returns phrasings you can act on; a broad one returns a category. Set the expand option to walk prefixes rather than taking the first ten completions.

### 3. Read the modifiers, not the count

Scan the returned phrases for the words that keep reappearing beside your seed: a platform, a price frame, a comparison, a year. Those modifiers are the reader telling you what job the page has to do. The number of suggestions is not a demand figure and should never be written as one.

### 4. Size the shortlist in Search Console

Take the phrasings that survived and query Search Console for the ones you already appear on. Impressions there are a measurement. Autocomplete gave you the candidates; this step tells you which ones you are already close to.

## FAQ

### How many monthly searches does a phrase get?

This tool cannot tell you. It returns presence, meaning Google offers the completion, which proves people type it. Volume, difficulty and cost per click come from a metered data vendor and are not available here.

### Is a longer suggestion list better?

Not on its own. A count of suggestions is not demand. A short list of precise phrasings is more useful than a long list of near duplicates.

### Does this need Chrome?

No. Autocomplete goes over plain HTTP with no browser. The SERP capture and rank check in the same family do drive Chrome.

### Can I get suggestions for another country or language?

Yes. The tool takes country and language parameters, so you can pull the completions offered in the market you are writing for.
